Turbine to get H2020-Backed Superconductive Generator

Envision Energy, a world leading smart energy solution provider, has announced that it aims to install a superconductive generator on one of its most advanced wind turbines. The product named EcoSwing generator is designed for a +3 MW class direct drive turbine and will provide enough electricity to power 1,000 households. The EcoSwing generator is thought to be the first superconductive generator designed for a wind turbine and promises a step change in generator development. The product has received funding from Horizon 2020.

EcoSwing Officially Kicked-Off

Brussels, May 27th, 2015 - Kick-Off meeting for the new EcoSwing project held 9 partners from 5 countries met to hold the official kick-off meeting and first general assembly meeting. More than 20 consortium representatives gathered in the Brussels office of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. The meeting was witnessed by representatives from the funding agency, INEA and from the EU’s DG Research.

Bonn, May 8, 2015 – ECO 5, the engineering consultant for efficient power applications, announced today a 2.3 m€ contract under which it will contribute to the design and engineering of world’s first superconductive generator for a commercial scale wind turbine. This so-called EcoSwing generator is intended to retrofit an existing permanent magnet generator in one of the most modern on-shore +3 MW wind turbines, owned and operated by Envision Energy.
